Does cheese go on a barbecue sandwich?

I went to a chain/franchise restaurant today called Dickey's Barbecue Pit. They sell a sandwich called "The Westerner" that features your choice of two barbecue meats plus cheese. Yes, cheese.

Now, I like cheese on a sandwich, and I love cheese on a burger. But cheese on a barbecue sandwich just doesn't work for me.

What do you think?

Regards,
Chris

Question:
Does cheese belong on a barbecue sandwich?

Choices:
Yes! Cheese makes everything better, including bbq sammies.
Not sure, but I'm willing to try anything once.
No way! Cheese and bbq sammies don't mix.

I'm not sure about on the sandwich, but think macaroni and cheese as a side dish with BBQ. Come to think about it, I bet I could think of a good cheese (no, not cheddar) that would go on that sandwich. A little bit of Maytag Blue cheese might be pretty good. I bet you can guess which reply I gave...

I've been to several barbecue joints that offer cheese with the meat. I actually like a good sliced cheddar or something on the side as opposed to being served on the sandwich.

I'm with Bob. I was ready to say "no way to cheese on BBQ but then I thought blue cheese might work.

+1

I've ordered grilled cheese...WITH cheese. No...I'm not joking.

The only thing better than cheese...is more cheese.

Cheese on the side, either as Mac&Cheese or sliced.

Otherwise, NO WAY!

I agree with Chris. As much as I love cheese, it has never fit with BBQ for me.

I voted "Yes, Yes, YES.."

However:

#1. Known Conflict of Interest:
I live in Wisconsin and need to do what I can to support our local economy. So, WISCONSIN cheese goes with anything Wink

#2. Should have had another option:
"Cheese goes with some/most Barbeque". I have an easier time picturing a slice of good cheese on a Brisket sandwich more so than on Pulled Pork.
However, it can probably be a simple matter of "finding the RIGHT cheese".

I'd like to think there's a cheese for every food and occasion, barbecue included.

I have clarified the question to make it clear I'm talking about cheese on a barbecue sandwich, not cheese as in mac & cheese or cheese on the side.

Unfortunately, that clears the poll results, so please vote again!

Regards,
Chris

Sorry for "stirring the pot", Chris -

This makes it more specific / better feedback

(I still stand-by my point #1 above Wink)

I guess it depends on what one defines as a BBQ sandwich. I like some Swiss cheese on my WSM smoked ham or corned beef sammys. Smiler

Probably Big Grin

I'll stick with my original answer above re, the Maytag Blue. I'm kinda liking the idea of a little pepper Jack, too. I'm still thinking about the provolone, but I'm leaning towards "YES".

There are so many different flavors of cheeses, there's bound to be some more I can't think of right now that'd be good on a BBQ sammich.

The Yeses and Nos are running neck-and-neck.

I'm with Chris. For a barbecue sandwich, uh-uh. Not working for me. For Q used in some other guise - brisket enchiladas, pulled pork chilaquiles or a grilled brisket/tomato/cheese or pork/pineapple/cheese sandwich - sure. But a barbecue sandwich, not in my book.
