Next weekend, I'm going to try my hand at ABTs for the first time. Most of the recipes I've seen here call for some pulled pork mixed in the filling. Problem is, I don't have any pulled pork. Any substitues recommended? I have some buckboard bacon in the freezer I made earlier this year...
Thanks in advance! -Michael |

Give it a shot. Or try something else or just use cheese and a Bacon wrap. Thats the beauty of cooking, you can put a twist on something and make it your own. I think most of the members here would agree that one shouldn't be hesitant about substituting or omitting ingredients. Have some fun with it. Any BBQ meat would do ... even no meat is fine.
TBH, unless there's a lot of PP in the ABTs, I don't really taste it through the smokey jalapeno, bacon, and cream cheese. ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ The 4 Basic Elements - Air, Fire, Charcoal, BBQ |

Michael, agree with above. If I add meat I like Italian spicy sausage, hot pepper jack and cream cheese as a filling. I dust with southwest seasoning. One xtra fine ingredient that adds wonderful color is cherry wood.

I usually use a chorizo cream cheese mixture.
